Anyone who works at sea or offshore knows that salt is disastrous for your machinery. Rust, rust and even more rust. Three hundred days in the port of Rotterdam provide the ultimate proof: Kolmer Top Coating anchors itself through the paint layer in the underlying aluminium and cast iron. A super strong layer that protects the motor against salt water. For years on end!

Cleaning

At locations where bacteria are undesirable a lot of daily cleaning takes place. Moist vapours, a high-pressure cleaner and an impressive selection of detergents. Disastrous for your motor! Cracked enamel paint, corrosion and flakes of paint amongst your products. After four and a half years, our first test motor is still running like a dream.

THE FOUR CHALLENGES

SALT WATER & IRON? A VERY BAD COMBINATION!

A fishing boat, harbour crane or other place close to the sea. Anyone who works in such a place knows that salt and machines are not a good combination. Waves and the constant moist salty air will soon turn your shiny motor into a brown pile of rust. The solution? Adding another layer of paint. Slowly the cooling fins of the motor clog up so that it overheats.

Fortunately, we can offer you the best solution to the rust problem. Kolmer Top Coating extends the life of the enamel paint by a factor of four. We exposed our motors to salt water at various test locations. Three hundred days in the port of Rotterdam provided the ultimate proof; one cool motor versus algae, seaweed, rust and deposits. Our coating anchors itself through the paint layer in the underlying aluminium and cast iron. The watery and super strong layer (stronger than C3 or M5 coating!) protects the motor for years against the harmful effects of salt water.

CLEANING: A PIECE OF FLAKED ENAMEL AMONGST THE FISH?

Cleaning is essential in locations where food is processed. However, the moist vapours, high-pressure cleaner and detergents are disastrous for the electric motor that keeps the conveyor belt running. As detergent penetrates the skin of the paint corrosion spreads. Hey, says the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, your foodstuffs should not show one speck of paint! The solution; shut down your production line every six months and install a new motor. Or, purchase an expensive stainless steel motor (without cooling).

Safe, durable and reliable
There is, however, another option. At one of our customers, droplets of acid occasionally fell on the motor. The result; a replaced motor every two months. The KTC test motor has been running for eighteen months now without a trace of corrosion! All painted up, no matter how much lye, soap or other chemicals you use. The coating penetrates through the paint layer into the underlying metal where it adheres. No blisters and flakes, but rather an affordable motor that functions optimally for years.

COLD: -40°C TUNNEL FREEZER SCRAPS YOUR MOTOR

Cold store? Cold tunnel? Fans blow cold air across the area. However, temperatures of -40°C are disastrous for the electric motors that power them. Due to the extreme cold, the paint of the motor cracks and everyone knows the result; rust. Do you want a great motor that will last longer than a year? You'll have to paint it time and time again and shut down your primary process to let the cold tunnel warm up before carrying out any repairs. Anyone who works with refrigeration knows that a motor that runs as long as possible without maintenance is worth its weight in gold.

Three-year warranty
Testing Kolmer Top Coating in a tunnel freezer was therefore high on our list of priorities. And the results are beyond expectations! The four KTC motors have been providing optimal cold air movement for two and a half years now. For this location in particular nearly three times the usual lifespan. Kolmer Top Coating adheres through the enamel paint layer to the underlying iron or aluminium of the motor. Rock-hard and smooth as glass. Nothing sticks to it nor penetrates it. Even in these extreme circumstances, we give a three-year warranty on our coating!

ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS: MOTORS PLACED OUTSIDE ON A PLATFORM

Pumping stations and pumps; in the Netherlands you will find electric motors in the open air everywhere. Wind, rain, snow or heat waves; continuously exposed to the elements. The only protection is a fragile layer of paint, which can be damaged and subsequently ends up in the environment. A rusting motor that will eventually break down.

KTC motors are therefore a wonderful, sustainable choice for water boards, municipalities and other managers of rural areas. The life of the paint is extended by at least a factor of four, making the motor last that much longer.

Thorough test phase
